This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research and develop a plan for achieving small business growth.

It applies to individuals who operate a small business either that operates independently, or that operates as part of a larger organisation. Individuals in this role interpret business information and numerical data competently to develop strategies, and are skilled communicators.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Analyse the business’ capacity for growth including legal and compliance obligations/implications and likely disruption to existing business 
Select appropriate opportunities for business growth, considering funding required, likelihood and extent of impact, and any associated risks and challenges 
Research and model selected opportunities to determine potential return on investment 
Consider roles of existing business employees/personnel and identify any necessary adjustments to the function, structure, or quantity of roles required 
Develop, produce, and deliver a business case for growth in a suitable format for relevant parties 
Integrate, where applicable, growth strategy into business, operational, marketing strategic, financial and production plans where relevant
